Love seeing these on the road. I've always paid attention to Semis since my dad is a trucker. Such a shame that they are far less common in the states now.

Especially when they've got a screaming Detroit under the cab.

Sorry I fucked that up. It's 246". But still, this truck is illegal it's a lot longer than that.

No sorry needed. I laughed picturing a 53" wb cab.

Canada couldn't be that strict.

When I was in Germany, the company I drove for (Gesuko) had cab over Scania/Renault/Volvo/Mercedes trucks. They're not bad, but they ride kind of differently. They're not for everyone - I find people transition easier from cabover to cab trucks, but tend to whine a lot going the other way.

Don't think my dad ever consistently drove a cabover back in the day. He drives for UPS(they bought the original company out). All they have is Volvos and I think I remember him telling me nobody is particularly crazy about them.

the Euro model ones I drove were nice - air ride, heated/cooled/massaging seats, etc. I haven't driven stateside Volvos but I have heard reliability horror stories of older ones (80s-mid 2000s). I know they unveiled a new 13 or 14 liter engine a few years ago, should take care of power issues.

I drove Internationals daily for about 2.5 years, no complaints really. A truck is a truck to me. As long it has a comfortable seat, a radio and A/C, I can drive all day.

Actually I think my dad said they had a few Internationals that were crap haha. My dad's rig definitely doesn't have all that fancy stuff.

There's a local United Van Lines location, that has one of these cab over rigs still in service. I get to see it regularly, and it always makes me smile.

I've always been partial to cabover trucks. My brother is a trucker and I always liked semi trucks but he never liked cabovers. I've always wondered why they weren't that popular? In all reality they are better in every way other than maybe maintenance.

You can see everything. You can see if there is a smart car right in front of you because you don't have a 12ft hood to look over. And as you know they look freaking amazing.

good lord will you look at that.

I imagine fuel mileage is not quite as good, and for trucking companies cents really add up. Thats the impression I've gotten.

It would make sence other than most countries other than canada and USA use cabovers still to this day.

Kinja'd!!!

I'm sure fuel mileage matters in europe too since diesel is twice as much as it is here.

well, the euro trucks were OTR. The internationals I drove were DuraStar/Prostar/WorkStar. We had a few older 4700s, God they were the worst.

Europeans use cab-over because they're limited by truck length rather than weight like here. If they didn't have to give up cargo space to extend the cab, they'd go with the more aerodynamic conventional layout.
